Is A Chemical Peel Right For You?

A Chemical peel procedure consists of a chemical solution applied tot eh skin in order to to improve the appearance and create a smoothing effect to the skin's texture. The Chemical solution will "strip away" the skin's damaged outer layers. In many cases a chemical peel procedure can be combined with a face lift surgery procedure.

It is important to note that a chemical peel procedure is not a substitute for face lift surgery and a chemical peel will not slow or stop the natural aging process Your plastic surgeon will provide information about certain types of chemical peel treatments and the results you might expect. It won't answer all your questions, since a lot depends on your individual circumstances. Once you and your plastic surgeon have decided on a specific peel program, be sure to ask about any details that you do not understand.

BOTOX Cosmetic in Hawaii

"If you keep making that face, it is going to stay that way permanently."

I remember my mom used to tell us kids that frequently, especially when one of us would make a frustrated face or dare to shoot mom an angry glance. Little did I realize that as I got older, Mom's wisdom would become more fact than fiction.

Every year we grow older, our skin also ages. Our aging skin along with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are the result of what could be the combination of a multitude of various factors. In addition to the normal changes to our skin cells, the loss of hormones and decreased collagen production, we also experience changes to areas surrounding the face such as the brow/forehead area caused by muscle contractions.

We have all seen the effects that muscle contractions have on the skin. Are you familiar with those vertical lines that appear between your brows? Those are commonly referred to as "11's" and are the result from repeated muscle contractions. every time you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles that control your brow movement contract. Over time, this will cause the brow skin to furrow and fold. After years of repeated brow contractions, those 11's can begin to stay prominent, even after your brow muscles are relaxed. Gee, maybe Mom was right after all.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that temporarily treats the fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging and muscle contractions by blocking nerve signals to the muscles in the treatment area. BOTOX® cosmetic achieves this by "stunning" the muscles, thereby reducing the muscle activity that is causing the prominent lines to form between the brows. A BOTOX treatment session consists of a few injection administered by your plastic surgeon. The procedure only takes a few minutes, and there is no down time.

Facelift Surgery Can Correct Sagging Facial Skin

As we grow older, our individual genetic history, exposure / over exposure to the elements such as the sun and wind, and other factors such as the use of tobacco, alcohol and drugs can actually alter our skin, thereby causing a loss of skin tone and elasticity as well as assisting in the development of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin around the neck, mouth, eyes and forehead. Folds in the skin become prominent around areas of the face such as the chin, and neck. Face lift surgery can correct these conditions by a plastic surgeon tightening the facial muscles and 'lifting' the facial skin.

Is A Filler Lift An Alternative To A Surgical Face Lift?

Many plastic surgeons believe that when the correct individual dermal filler, or in some cases, the correct combination of fillers to treat wrinkles, the results are very similar to those achieved from much more invasive procedures.

Dermal fillers widely accepted and used in modern cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic surgery procedures as an instant aesthetic treatment. A dermal filler treatment is one of a small number of cosmetic procedures that typically provide immediate results and a noticeable improvement and does not require down time like procedures such as a face lift.

These days there is a mind boggling number of choices when electing to have a dermal filler treatment. It is not an uncommon practice for a cosmetic surgeon to utilize a single type of filler to treat more than one area of concern.

New York Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Karyn Grossman states "Each individual dermal filler has qualities that differ from other fillers, and therefore provide different results. By utilizing multiple filler types to treat different areas of a patients face, and using the best filler for each treatment area, one can achieve the most beautiful and natural looking results possible."

Laser Resurfacing Procedures Are Gaining Popularity

These days, facial rejuvenation and skin resurfacing has become a viable and realistic alternate treatment to a face lift. This is due in part to the advancements of technology for the use of lasers in a medical setting. Following this, the advanced Fraxel laser is one of the most widely used lasers in plastic surgeon offices around the world.

This is because the Fraxel Laser treats only a very small area of skin at a time and does not break the protective outer barrier of the skin. When one compares this to traditional resurfacing procedures that strip away the entire top layer of the damaged skin and have a lengthy recovery period, it is not hard to see why modern laser resurfacing procedures are gaining popularity among more invasive plastic surgery procedures.

Facial Rejuvenation in Mountain View

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift or eyebrow lift, corrects the skin wrinkling and loss of tone that causes sagging of eyebrows and hooding of upper eyelids. A brow lift softens the deep creases across the forehead, reduces horizontal frown lines at the top of your nose and vertical lines between your brows. The result is a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. It is the only procedure that can increase the distance from the lateral brow to the upper eyelashes.

Some people have brow lifts to correct aging problems, while others have inherited traits that cause them to seek treatment in their 20s or 30s. You may be a good candidate for a brow lift if you have any of the following types of conditions:
  • If you have drooping lateral brows that are close to or below your orbital bony rim
  • If you feel you always look angry or scowling
  • If you like your appearance and your brows and eyelids when you pull up your forehead with your fingers at your hairline above your lateral brows
  • If you desire the ideal benefits of facial rejuvenation and you are already considering a face and neck lift
For more information about the Brow Lift procedure, contact Dr. Pearl, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Mountain View, California.

What Can Fat Transfer Do For You?

A fat transfer Procedure is an alternative to using dermal fillers to treating the fine lines and wrinkles that begin to appear around the corner of our mouths, eyes and cheeks as we age. Fat transfer can also be utilized for enhancing features of the body such as the buttocks and even the breasts.

During a fat transfer procedure, a plastic surgeon will utilize fat tissues removed from another area of the body, and then used to fill out the area being treated. Selecting a Plastic Surgeon - Beverly Hills

While heading for checkout at the grocery store, Dad used to blaze right past the 10-item lane. Los Angeles plastic surgery When pressed about it, he'd respond, "Would you rather wait for twelve people with one item or one person with twelve items?" Presumably, there was a lesson being taught about not letting a gimmick cloud one's vision of the overall deal. From there, a corollary could reasonably be drawn that certain things, if delivered unsatisfactorily, will never justify having chosen a lower price.

Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Francis Palmer, makes a similar point with regard to choosing a cosmetic surgeon. Whether you undergo breast augmentation, liposuction, a tummy tuck, a face lift, whatever; it's generally best to get it right the first time. Don't be afraid to ask questions, get a feel for a doctor's sense of aesthetics, or get a second opinion if you're not sure the doc is up to the job. After you've found a surgeon who can do the job right, then you can worry about less consequential matters.

What Can I Expect From a Dermal Filler Treatment?

In most cases, Dermal filler appointments will take about an hour. Most of this time will be with a numbing agent gradually numbing the skin. Sometimes when extensive lip treatments are being performed, we will opt to give a small, nearly painless, numbing injection to deaden the sensitive lip tissue prior to administering the dermal filler. In this case, your lip will remain numb for up to an hour following the session.

During the actual treatment you should be very comfortable, feeling only some mild pin pricks or stinging. Most patients are impressed at the ease of these treatments. If you are experiencing significant discomfort during the session please advise the plastic surgeon as there are often other remedies to ease any pain you might be feeling.

After the session a small amount of swelling and redness in the treated area is normal and to be expected. Typically the majority of this reactivity will be gone within several hours but on occasion can persist for several days. Bruising can occur. If you are susceptible to bruising or on blood thinners, please let your provider know prior to the treatment so extra precautions or recommendations can be made. Bruising will not affect the end result but can take up to 10 days to resolve when significant.

Plastic Surgeons Perform Facelift Surgery For Many Reasons

A face lift procedure will not be able to stop this process, but it is capable of "turning back the hands of time." A rhytidectomy (sometimes referred to as a face lift) is made to reduce much of the looseness and many of the heavy folds and wrinkles of the neck and face. The procedure will also improve the contour of a person's necklines and jaw. However, a face lift will not completely remove every line, wrinkle, and fold. The amount of improvement that can be made around the eyes and with fine lines of the facial skin is limited. A rhytidectomy alone will not be able to improve acne scars, "smoker's" lines around the mouth, or poor complexion. Other options are available to treat these various problems including chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser treatment.

Performed By A Plastic Surgeon, A Facelift Turns Back the Hands of Time

A face lift is capable of improving the most visible signs of aging by sculpting and tightening the deeper foundation and structures of the face and neck. When a person ages, the effects of smoking, gravity, sun exposure, heredity, the stresses of daily lift, and weight fluctuations of daily life begin to show themselves in their face. A face lift procedure can bring back youth to an individual's face. In a person's youth, their face is firm and smooth due to proper positioning of normal facial fat and good skin elasticity. When a person ages, skin elasticity and muscle tone will weaken and facial fat will descend and cause prominent skin folds and deep creases between the nose and the corner of the mouth. The jowls of a person become more prominent along with fat deposits and loose skin forming in the neck.

Plastic Surgeons Often Choose To Perform An Excess Skin Removal After The New Position Is Established From A Forehead Lift Procedure

A browlift will set a person's eyebrows to a higher level and will stretch out the skin of the upper eyelids. Often times none of the skin will need to be remove, but if it does, many cosmetic surgeons choose to trim it later after the new brow position has been established. This is done so that the two procedures will not work against one another and eye closure will not become an issue. With a higher set eyebrow, patients will stop wrinkling their brows since there is no longer a need for conscious elevation.

You May Think You Need Eyelid Lift Surgery When You Really Need A Browlift

Many people will go into a plastic surgeon's office and request a blepharoplasty to correct an excessive amount of skin that they have in their upper eyelids. Many times the actually problem lies within their brow and a brow lift is the answer. For these patients, the brow itself has fallen which has resulted in a "bunching" of skin in the upper eyelid area. An aggressive removal of skin during an eyelid lift will typically pull the brow down even further which will just make the problem worse and possibly create a weary or tired appearance.

Long Beach Facelift Surgery

Face Lift Long Beach - It's difficult not to use the phrase "personal decision" when referring to any surgery, particularly in the case of Facelift Long Beach cosmetic surgery. Despite the increasing acceptance of cosmetic surgery procedures, there remain those who frown on the choice. Really, there should be only one opinion (that of the patient) which matters, and if that opinion is based on an informed comparison of the potential risks and benefits, who can legitimately find fault?

A counteraction to the sagging and wrinkling which occur as skin ages and loses its elasticity, facelift surgery may be combined with implants, soft tissue augmentation, and/or wrinkle reduction by injection. How extensive the changes, and consequently the incision scars, will depend on the personal consultation you have with your doctor before-hand. Long Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Marcel Daniels "goes to great lengths to listen to each patient and helps them select the procedure that has the best chance of meeting their expectations."

A Plastic Surgeon May Choose To Create An External Incision For Your Lower Eyelid Lift

When excess skin and wrinkles are present around the lower eyelid, the cosmetic surgeon may choose to use and external incision approach. With this approach, the incision will be made just beneath the lower eyelashes. This will be easily hidden during the process of healing. Through this incision made on the lower eyelid, excess fat, muscle, and skin may be removed. The incision would then be closed with sutures that would be removed about a week after the procedure. Bruising and swelling are a little more common with lower blepharoplasty, however the problems will usually resolve within one week. Within one to two weeks, regular activities may be resumed.

Lower Eyelid Surgery Is For People With Prominent Fat Bags Of The Lower Eyelids

When a plastic surgeon performs a lower eyelid lift, patients are offered a gentle intravenous sedation from their anesthetist. This procedure can, however, be comfortably performed with only the use of local anesthetic. For any patient who has prominent fat bags under their lower eyelids and only a small amount of excess muscle or skin, the eyelid surgery can be performed with zero external sutures. Instead, an incision will be placed on the inner side of the lower eyelid and extra fat will be carefully removed. No sutures are required for this approach, and patients will be asked to use a topical eye drop for a week after to aid them in their healing process.

Faster Recovery from Face Lift Los Angeles, CA

Medical science strides forward daily, and the improvements to procedures and outcomes continue to amaze. Just when you get used to the idea that your facial skin Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon and muscles can be tightened for a more youthful appearance, they find a way to cut down the recovery time for your facelift. According to Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Doctor Francis Palmer, "when the proper facial aesthetics are followed, the incisions [and] the tissue dissection can be limited which in turn means there will be smaller scars, less bruising and swelling and a shorter recovery time. This is the idea behind the creation of our 'Celebrity Lift™' that can make you look 10 years younger in less than 90 minutes with a recovery time that’s measured in hours, not weeks." The key, says Dr. Palmer, "is addressing the central portion of the face, the cheeks. The nasolabial folds are reduced and the cheeks are properly shaped using cheek implants or fillers like Radiesse or Perlane."

Certainly this should appeal to socialites, celebrities, business persons; really, to anyone who wants to look younger and doesn't have the luxury of spending a month or two out of sight while recovering. An added benefit Dr. Palmer points out is that, given reduced tissue dissection, "smokers and those with a long history of smoking may still be a candidate for this powerful, yet minimal incision facelift and necklift."

Your Cosmetic Surgeon Will Make Sure That Your Facelift Is Individualized For You

A face lift procedure is very individualized. During your consultation with your cosmetic surgeon, he or she will evaluate your face. This will include the underlying bone and skin. Your doctor will then discuss with you your goals for the surgery. He or she will then review your medical history and check you for any conditions that could possibly cause problems during or after the procedure. Some of these conditions are the tendency to form excessive scars, blood clotting problems, and uncontrolled high blood pressure. You must be sure to inform your surgeon of all the vitamins, herbs, and medications that you are taking. If you smoke, your plastic surgeon will counsel you on the increased risks that are associated with smoking on healing and he or she will need to wait at least two months after you have stopped smoking to perform the procedure.

A Plastic Surgeon Can Reverse The Effects Of Gravity On Your Face With Face Lift Surgery

A face lift, technically called a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is capable of "setting the clock back" on your face and neck. As any person ages, the exposure to the sun, the effects of gravity, and the stresses of daily life can be seen within their face. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth, the jawline grows jowly and slack, and folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. A rhytidectomy is able to improve the most visible signs of aging successfully by re-draping the skin of your face and neck, removing excess fat, and tightening the underlying muscles.

Bay Area Plastic Surgery - Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty San Francisco - Time is a two-faced creature. On the one hand are the things that can't happen soon enough, like Christmas, the movie you've been waiting for since the day you picked up the book, getting that promotion Bay Area Plastic Surgeons you've been working for, and so on. On the other hand is the price we pay for our patience; our skin loses its elasticity and body parts start unauthorized migration. It doesn't take much to make a young face look old and tired. A little sagging above, a little baggage below, maybe some wrinkles for good measure, and 'Blammo!' Old.

While there's no way to truly avoid the cost of accumulating birthdays, it's surprisingly simple to get an extension. Because so much of the face's appearance hangs on subtle details, eyelid lift surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a relatively minor procedure that can have a major impact. Non Invasive Procedures Are Becoming More Popular

With economy in its current state, many are reducing their spending, which affects almost every industry in the United States. The Cosmetic and plastic surgery industry has seen a bigger drop off than most other industries and this is due to the fact that most every plastic or cosmetic procedure available is to be considered an elective surgical procedure, and are not deemed necessary to a healthy lifestyle.

Recent trends have shown a quite noticeable reduction of the most popular plastic surgery procedures - Breast Augmentation surgery, Body contouring procedures such as liposuction and tummy tuck surgery, and face lift surgery have all seen a decline in the overall number of these procedures performed. Of Course is no secret why these popular procedures have recently become less popular. All of these elective surgery procedures can cost thousands of dollars, and most people interested in finding beauty through cosmetic surgery are now looking for less expensive solutions for looking younger.

Experts in the cosmetic surgery profession, such as Hawaii Plastic surgeon Dr de los Reyes, recommend less invasive procedures to achieve that youthful look without breaking the bank. These procedures include the ever popular BOTOX treatments, Chemical peels, and other facial rejuvenation procedures such as microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing.

Plastic Surgery Q&A - Facelift Surgery

How long does a facelift usually last?

The length of time the results of a facelift procedure will last depend on a number of factors - the type of facelift procedure and surgical techniques used, the patient's skin type, aging, medical history, exposure to the elements, skin care regimen, how well a patient followed post operative instructions, alcohol use and smoking can all affect the longevity of facelift surgery results. The traditional answer is approximately ten years. However, taking into account the fact that the aging process cannot be stopped, anyone considering a facelift surgery procedure can expect to look better after a face lift procedure.

The best candidates for a facelift surgery procedure are men and women who are experiencing sagging skin in the face and neck area, even though their skin may still retain some of its natural elasticity.

A well-defined facial bone structure makes a facelift procedure more simple. While a facelift surgery procedure can be performed on patients in their 60's and 70's, the majority of patients undergo a facelift procedure in their 40's and 50's.

Following a facelift surgery procedure, a patient will still look like themselves, the procedure will restore a youthful refreshed look to the face and can also restore self-confidence. However, a facelift procedure will not restore youthful energy or vitality.

You Can Improve Your Sun-Damaged Skin With Laser Treatments

Currently, there are many lasers used for facial and skin rejuvenation and to treat sun damage and photo-aging of the skin. One older laser system, the carbon dioxide laser, has been very effective for treating sun damaged skin but has fallen out of favor. This is because it routinely caused extensive rawness of the skin that typically required over 2 weeks of “hiding out” or “downtime” to recover. In addition to the time it took to heal, it frequently caused skin discoloration and occasionally scarring. Many lasers available today require very little downtime and yield some improvement of the skin but are not nearly as effective as the carbon dioxide laser. As with any procedure, anyone considering laser skin treatments should first consult with a plastic surgeon prior to under going their chosen procedure.

Plastic Surgeons Use The Latest Surgery Techniques For Brow Lift Surgery

Cosmetic surgeons use the latest in surgery techniques when they perform their Los Angeles browlift and forehead lift procedures. Brow-lifting procedures can elevate and reposition brows that have become tired and droopy, and can improve the wrinkles between the eyes and the forehead. According to Los Angeles plastic surgeon, Dr. Hoefflin, using the revolutionary advances of endoscopy, several small incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations behind the hairline, thus avoiding any visible facial incisions. During the surgery, the muscles on the forehead above the eyes will be elevated to smooth out excessive lines and raise the eyebrows to a more pleasing level which will create a more balanced and youthful appearance.

The nasal bones are then brought together to form a more narrower bridge. They may also refine and reshape the nose by sculpting the nasal tip as well.

Cosmetic Surgery - Vancouver

Vancouver cosmetic surgeryWhat are some things you look for in a cosmetic surgeon? I think the first thing you need is someone who knows what they are doing. Cosmetic surgery is not something to trifle with, and it helps to know that your surgeon has the experience to get it right. Another thing to look for is board certification. Plastic Nose Surgery in Los Angeles, CA

Plastic surgery quickly conjures breast augmentation and face lift surgery. Nose surgery may even come to the rhinoplasty nose reshaping picturemind, but usually when I think of plastic surgery, the reason behind it is always cosmetic. I was visiting the web site of Santa Monica nose surgery Doctor, Steven Teitelbaum, however, and was reminded that there's more to the nose than meets the eye. Of course, there are cosmetic reasons to have nose surgery; it may be too large for its face, it may have a hump, or a bulbous tip or oddly shaped nostrils. There can also be deformities on the inside, though, which can cause difficulty breathing. Repair if these issues also falls on the plastic surgeon, and may even be covered by insurance. Perhaps a closer look at Los Angeles facial rejuvenation might even help a body breathe a little bit easier.

Cheek Augmentation Can Achieve An Ideal Cheek Structure For Men And Women

Cheek augmentation can be performed using cheek implants. According to a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Francis Palmer, this will enhance the beauty of the face. Cheek implants are a way to improve your face and achieve the ideal aesthetic cheek shape. Cheek implants come in many sizes and shapes, but obviously there must be an ideal size and shape for each individual patient to see the most aesthetic improvement from their cheek implants. There are several types of cheek implant material and between forty and sixty possible shapes and sizes of cheek implants available. This can lead to a great deal of confusion when people are trying to decide on what cheek implant to receive. Cheek augmentation is important to beauty because cheeks have the ability to make the face appear female, male, old, young, attractive, or less so.

Cosmetic Surgeons Use Cheek Augmentation To Fill Inadequate Cheek Volume

Plastic surgeons have outlined the important beauty differences as a means to quantify, identify, and evaluate the cheeks for a cheek augmentation using cheek implants. If a surgeon were to use the wrong size or shape of cheek implant, it may lead to a gender non-specific alteration of the face. Simply put, the cheek implants could make a male's face appear more feminine and vice-versa. According to a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Francis Palmer, the cheeks should only be augmented with cheek implants when the ideal shape of a cheek is not present and the potential patient is over 18 years old. There are many cosmetic surgeons that even prefer to wait until after a potential patient has lost all the "baby fat" still in their face in their 20's. And there are some cosmetic surgeons that believe that other methods including facial liposcultping may be utilized for further accentuation of the cheek area prior to this time.

Choosing a Cosmetic Surgeon - San Diego, CA

The choice to pursue cosmetic surgery is a very personal one, and can be daunting. Choosing a doctor to provide your treatment is often every bit as personal and complicated a decision. Still, there are ways to improve your search. A smart Cosmetic Surgery San Diegosuggestion from San Diego cosmetic surgeon Dr. Karam of Carmel Valley Facial Plastic Surgery is to carefully review before-and-after documentation of your potential doctor's past work to determine whether you share his aesthetic taste. Speaking to others who have received treatment from the doctor you are considering can give you a good idea of what you can expect your own experience to be like. For his own practice where he offers facial rejuvenation in San Diego, Dr. Karam comments, "We pride ourselves on our open and honest dialogue with each of our patients and strive to provide every patient with all of the information and options they need to make the most informed and appropriate decision possible to achieve their aesthetic goals."

Los Angeles - Lip Augmentation

Whenever cosmetic surgery comes up, especially if it is cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles, it Lip Augmentation in Los Angelesseems that the first topics to be discussed are breast augmentation, liposuction, and face lifts. While these procedures are certainly requested often (breast augmentation is consistently one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries year after year, according to the ASAPS), most plastic surgeons offer much more than surgery. Often it's the smaller, subtle things such as lip augmentation that make the biggest difference because they are less noticeable.

"The lips have the ability to soften the entire face and can enhance the face when the chin and or nose have features that are not aesthetically pleasing," claims Dr. Francis Palmer of Los Angeles. According to Dr. Palmer’s Beauty Principles, the lips are the face's 3rd most important beauty feature.

Could You Benefit From Laser Skin Resurfacing?

I am a big fan of the out-doors and being in the sun a lot and over time the elements have taken a toll on my skin, especially my facial skin. It had gotten so bad that it was difficult for me to look at myself in the mirror. I eventually became so sick of the way I look that I decided I would do something about it and search the internet for something to make my face look better.

While searching the internet I found a site called Keycare.com and on that website I learned about Laser Skin Resurfacing and how "The new CO2 pulse lasers are effective for treating fine wrinkles that occur with aging and exposure to the elements. We are using them for blepharoplasty and facial resurfacing either with or without facelift surgery. The laser also treats the vertical wrinkles that occur in the upper lip area. This new method for Laser Skin Resurfacing takes advantage of the ability of the laser to penetrate the skin to a precise depth. The consistency and degree of penetration affords an even effect over the entire treated area. The superficial skin is shed and new skin regenerates, providing a fresher, smoother appearance."

Soon after I was able to receive one of these procedures and I can say that I am very glad that I decided to do something about the way I look.

I went to find out what some of the procedures were and found a good amount of a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Daniel Golshani's website. On his website he goes in depth into each procedure, but I am just going to list them. First off he mentions chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Naming more non-surgical techniques he lists botox, restylane, IPL (Intense Pulse Laser) and laser skin resurfacing. He then goes on to list many surgical techniques. Fat graft facial augmentation, mini facelift, cheek lift, brow lift, MACS facelift, SMAS facelift, neck lift, and bone contouring are just some of them.

For Many People, Signs Of Aging Before Anything Else Will Appear On Their Neck

Dr. Daniel Golshani describes a cosmetic surgery procedure referred to as a neck lift that is utilized specifically to remove these so called "bands."

Restore a Youthful Vibrancy with a Face Lift

A face lift can help such individuals restore youthful vibrance and energy to the face. The effects of time are virtually undone to restore an individual's face and to remove many of the effects of time and aging. A plastic surgeon accomplishes such effects by working with wrinkles, tightening the skin, removing fat deposits, and by tightening the underlying muscles of the face. This not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and respect to the patient.

Chin Augmenation Can Help You Achieve Facial Balance

If you consider your chin small, you may benefit from surgery. Having a larger (or "stronger") chin can help balance one's appearance, creating equal weight in the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face. It can offset the prominence of a large or even medium-sized nose. Enlarging the chin can also make the neck look longer and more graceful, and this can be a helpful addition to a facelift when there is blunting of the angle between lower neck and the under-chin region.

It involves extracting fat cells from the patient's abdomen, thighs, buttocks or elsewhere and reinjecting them beneath the facial skin. Fat is most often used to fill in "sunken" cheeks or laugh lines between the nose and mouth, to correct skin depressions or indentations, to minimize forehead wrinkles and to enhance the lips.

Blepharoplasty: The Surgery

Typically the incisions follow the natural lines of your eyelids; in the creases of your upper lids, and just below the lashes in the lower lids. The eyelid surgery incisions may extend into the crow's feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through these incisions, the surgeon separates the skin from underlying fatty tissue and muscle, removes excess fat, and often trims sagging skin and muscle. The incisions are then closed with very fine sutures.

A Chin Implant Can Produce a Dramatic Improvement in Facial Profile and Balance

Cheek implants are inserted through small incisions on the inside of the upper lip, which heal in approximately one week. A relatively minor procedure, cheek implants may be placed using only local anesthesia or with deeper sedation for patient comfort. Most implants are constructed from solid silicone, which adheres to the underlying bone and is very difficult to feel. While rare, complications may include infection or displacement of the implant requiring removal or repositioning. Over the years the art and science of facial contouring with cheek implants has evolved significantly, and there are many different styles and shapes to choose from. A successful outcome requires choosing the right size and shape of implant, and then placing that implant in the right location.

The key to looking natural after surgery is to tighten the underlying muscles of the face without much tension on the skin. The best facelifts do not distort the hairline behind the ears or sideburn in front of the ear. The earlobes should also be left in place without being pulled forward. The surgical incisions should be difficult to detect.

Who is Performing Your Face Lift?Who is Performing Your Face Lift?

A face lift is a procedure which, unfortunately, can be performed by any physician - whether adequately trained or not. Most states have very little regulation on this matter. Because of this, non-plastic - or so called "cosmetic" - surgeons can perform a face lift as well. In addition, some physicians who are legitimately board certified in other specialties, such as dermatology and gynecology, for example are performing "cosmetic" surgery even though they often have never had any formal residency training in the specialty of plastic surgery itself. Weekend courses abound and the patient is often confused as to which doctor to see.

Facelifts Help you Gain a Firm Jaw Line and a Smooth Chiseled Neck

Do you look in the mirror and wonder "Wow, when did my jaw line and neck start to sag so much? And where did these wrinkles come from?" Do you ask yourself, "I feel 30…why do I look 60?" If so, you are not alone. A majority of patients who come see me have asked themselves the same questions and feel exactly the same way. With time my patients notice they start feeling older because of the way their face has aged. Aging of the lower face and neck is one of the first changes we notice. The firm jaw line and smooth chiseled neck of youth get replaced by sagging jowls and redundant neck skin and fat. The good news is, of all the age-related changes, these are the ones that are the easiest to restore.

Many people are afraid of the facelift because of the downtime, risks, and potential of looking too pulled or unnatural. Many of these considerations apply to traditional and outdated face-lifts. The new generation face-lift is less invasive and refined and allows patients to recover quickly, while achieving excellent natural and lasting results. These procedures can be done without general anesthesia, further decreasing the cost and the risk. As a result of these qualities, these procedures have had extremely high levels of satisfaction.

The face/neck lift is a very popular procedure done frequently in the United States and it is in the top 1/3 in popularity of all cosmetic procedures performed on the face. The facelift procedure is done for cosmetic reasons, and it is a procedure that is done on the face and neck to rejuvenate the face. This procedure tightens up lax facial skin, neck skin and muscles, jowls, and addresses neck fat as well. It also tightens the muscles in the face, the posterior portion of the neck and the front portion of the neck. Excess skin is removed around the ears and fat is removed underneath the neck.

Lips are One of the Most Youthful Features on the Face

One of the most sexy and youthful features of the face are the lips. Lushes, plump, and full lips are signs of youth, health, and fertility. As we age our lips lose their fullness and volume. The upper lip sags and becomes thinner. Meanwhile, fine wrinkles develop around lips which are called "lipstick lines" or "smoker's lines".
Lip augmentation consists of a variety of procedures designed to give a person a more defined and fuller lips. Besides enlarging the lips, lip fillers or implants are also used to balance the upper and lower lips.

Many Facial Expressions Take a Toll On Your Face

A brow lift (a.k.a. a forehead lift, upper face lift) is a procedure utilized to correct a drooping brow and to restore a more youthful look. Laughing, crying, smiling and frowning are common facial expressions that involve the use of the forehead. Because your forehead is always moving, this eventually takes its toll on your skin. Together with aging, the result is eventually drooping eyebrows, forehead lines, and those ubiquitous frown lines. A sagging brow crowds the eyes and makes it appear that one is always frowning or angry. Often, a brow lift alone can correct upper eyelid skin excess that cannot be corrected with an eyelid lift alone. Raising the brows and tightening the upper face "opens up" the eyes, restoring a rested, more youthful look. A brow lift can be performed alone, or in conjunction with a face-neck lift and/or blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty Corrects the Appearance of Droopy Eyelids

Blepharoplasty, also called an eyelid lift, is the most common facial plastic procedure performed in my office. The first signs of aging to appear in the mid to late 30's are almost always related to the eyes. Furthermore, psychological studies show that 50 percent of our initial impression of a person is made on the basis of the appearance of the eyes. The eyes tell others if we are sad, happy, angry or tired. Blepharoplasty corrects the appearance of droopy upper eyelids and puffy bags of the lower eyelids, and it produces dramatic and predictable results. It is very common to hear family and friends of eyelid patients compliment them that they look more rested and relaxed. Quite often, even these close acquaintances do not realize that surgery was performed. The recovery is very rapid and you can resume a normal routine in one to two days. The sutures come out in four days, and makeup can be resumed on day five.

It is often performed to erase many of the effects associated with aging, leaving you with a smoother, more youthful looking appearance. Younger adults who have a low brow or who already have deep frown lines due to stress or over activity of muscles may benefit from this procedure, as well.

A Rhytidectomy Can Make You Look 10-15 Years Younger

A facelift can be used to treat problem areas around the face such as jowls and hanging skin. The goal is to make you look ten to fifteen years younger without changing your overall appearance. In order to maintain a natural look, some plastic surgeons prefer to use the endoscopic techniques that limit incision size and visibility.
Facelifts are often combined with a brow lift to create better harmony of the facial structures. For the same reason, laser resurfacing is often offered to reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth; a facelift corrects sagging and deep wrinkles.

A Facelift can Erase the Effects of Aging

As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jawline grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck.
A facelift (technically known as rhytidectomy) can't stop this aging process. What it can do is "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.

A Forehead Lift Smooths The Forehead

A forehead lift or "browlift" is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.
In a forehead lift, the muscles and tissues that cause the furrowing or drooping are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines. Your surgeon may use the conventional surgical method, in which the incision is hidden just behind the hairline; or it may be performed with the use of an endoscope, a viewing instrument that allows the procedure to be performed with minimal incisions. Both techniques yield similar results -- smoother forehead skin and a more animated appearance.

Blepharoplasty Can Correct Drooping Upper Eyelids

Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat--usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift.

The Aging Process can Cause Unwanted Changes in Expression

An eyelid lift (eye surgery) otherwise known as blepharoplasty, focuses on the eyes, which occupy a very prominent part of our facial features. It is the surrounding skin, rather than the eyes themselves, that conveys emotion. The tissue, muscle, fat, hair and lashes all contribute to the wide array of expressions. Age, sun exposure and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes.
The aging process can cause unwanted changes in expression, causing us to look permanently fatigued and older than we really are. These changes in appearance can cause emotional distress and sometimes even visual impairment. An eyelid lift is designed to restore a more youthful appearance to your eyes. It may involve the upper lids, the lower lids, or both.

Chemical Peel Smooths the Texture of the Facial Skin

Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs. Although chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, it is not a substitute for such surgery, nor will it prevent or slow the aging process. Once you and your plastic surgeon have decided on a specific peel program, be sure to ask about any details that you do not understand.

Asian Eyelid Surgery

The exotic look of a surgically revised asian eye has been perfected by some plastic surgeons. The procedure involves creating a pleasing double fold above the single eyelid. This procedure widens the eye into a beautifully shaped almond. Fine sutures leave no significant evidence of surgery.
I had no idea they had a completely different surgery for Asian eyelids. I wonder if it is more difficult than American eyelids. Has anyone had an experience with this that they would like to share?
